Redeaming Qualities

The last lecture and the readings were what I was waiting for. Ewen's evidence that images control our lives through making everything a commodity is clear and straightforward. All aspects of our lives, our bodies, architecture, fashion, history, are layed open in the third part of "All Consuming Images." Ewen has left out the many philosophical flaws made in previous sections of the book and lecture. One of Ewen's lecture point continued to ring in my ears while reading the last part of his book, that there is an underlying message or agenda imbedded in all media and that form has been "divorced" for matter in our society. We no longer control images; they are everywhere telling us to want more. I was disappointed with Ewen conclusion only because he seems to focus the blame on Bernays even though the majority of the book focused on the historical buildup to our current situation.

  1. Don't leave me hanging, Frank! What was it from Professor Ewen's lecture that you are still thinking about?
